I admit. I find #bluesky #speirgorm too worthy sometimes. But I remember when #potus mocked the reporter with a disability. My eldest son has a disability. He’s now at University. So I wish nothing but pestilence on that artless moron

My local pharmacy plays commercial radio with an Alexa on the counter.
When no one’s near i say Alexa play AJP Taylor lecturing on the Weimar Republic or something similar, and watch what happens slowly

I’ve never read James Baldwin, but I will. But every day someone who hasn’t read him quotes him, and this upsets me

I’m here cause it’s more pleasant. I like the fact that you’re listening to Hunky Dory on vinyl with an expensive speaker placed next to your ocean view, but I can see some of your other LPs, and I can smell the dog shit in the invisible corner of the room

It’s very difficult. I’m happy when you espouse something vaguely nationalist. Maybe not that different to the ROI experience. But when I was growing up, not sure whether the Brits, the Provos, Horslips or RUC were thr worst opressor

But also late 80s, so the dregs of post U2 record co. Interest also played along with Meat Loaf Bonnie Tyler during down time. But I’m obsessed with Freshmen and Billy Brown and his NME single of the week in punk era

I read one of your academic essays on showbands. Fascinating! Parents were old and detached themselves from showbands when Dixieland/crooner influence faded
I worked in hotel in Armagh and caught back end of it- Joe, Big Tom…

Watching No Direction Home for first time since its release. All the angry English folkies and young people. Ah Well, at least you can rely on the Walker Bros. Scott’s just gone solo I hear

@fesshole.bsky.social get repeat prescription in local chemist. Commercial radio playing low volume. Noticed Alexa on counter. Assistant went back to the pharmacy area. I pretend to be on phone and whisper. Alexa play Electric Prunes, Sunn O etc

@blindboyboatclub.bsky.social I found Barry Lyndon online. Afraid to say where. Wonderful. Although Irish people obsessed with accents being off that’s N Leitrim not S Leitrim instead of enjoying the performance. V Few examples elsewhere apart from Mary Poppins

Mum lives in a smallish harbour town in Ireland. Nearly 87. Has coffee occasionally with a fella who says he was in the Strawbs circa 1984. He’s the right age. Potentially a clever boast. Not too extreme, and post their classic line-up. Can’t remember his name
PS my Mum says “what’s a Strawb”?

I’m old. But there’s a thing going on where Irish popular culture is being celebrated like Blur,Oasis and Guy Ritchie in the 90s.
I’m avoiding naming names, but in 20 years time, we’ll be celebrating the less obvious. PS. Like Blur. Maybe Lankum, but they’re way better than Blur
