Something I love about working at @fredhutch.org is the space that @jtleek.bsky.social @vortexing.bsky.social and @tladeras.bsky.social have carved out for us to develop all of our content and software as open source by default.
Speaking as someone who has created a lot of content, this industry is absolutely full of people who want to ride your content to their own ends and drop you as soon as it's convenient. You need to either retain agency or be willing to completely let it go. Don't give it over and then trust.
