Conventions are a great opportunity to give new systems a try. Don't sweat it if you aren't super familiar with a system's rules, the GM running the game is likely anticipating that.

Consistency with the art direction can really go a long way. Something that really stands out about the stuff I've seen from Delta Green, for example. Lots of nice art in Cthulhu but it feels like a lot of people going for different styles.
