In my experience most college students are also pretty bad at standing in authentic wonder before the beauty of God’s creation, to be fair.

The Muppets thing seems like a real litmus test of your toleration for "hang" movies. If you like them, you prefer the original.

I'm ashamed to say this, but I've left more than one Lawrence screening at intermission.

I can't be fully heretical here: I acknowledge David Lynch is a great filmmaker, but I personally don't like his movie. Their glib nihilism and resolute apolitical quality annoys me. They also totally run together for me, with some notable exceptions.

I lack your confidence in predicting what Americans “would come to” think. I’ve seen such confident predictions fail too many times.

If true.

Serious question: what does “moderate” mean? Is it indexed at all to what most Americans think? I completely agree that this would be a good response. But it is not a response that would have broad public support. So, “moderate”?

True! But neither has it (or Islam) ever been reducible to anti-Semitism—which is not to say it has ever been free of anti-Semitic either (since the early moments, when it was a variant of Judaism). That’s why your characterization was reductive.
