I can't be fully heretical here: I acknowledge David Lynch is a great filmmaker, but I personally don't like his movie. Their glib nihilism and resolute apolitical quality annoys me. They also totally run together for me, with some notable exceptions.

I like to make fun of defensive backs who theatrically lament missed interceptions that would have been incredible catches. In this case, I'd be comfortable with them wearing sackcloth and ashes for the next quarter.

Serious question: what does “moderate” mean? Is it indexed at all to what most Americans think? I completely agree that this would be a good response. But it is not a response that would have broad public support. So, “moderate”?

True! But neither has it (or Islam) ever been reducible to anti-Semitism—which is not to say it has ever been free of anti-Semitic either (since the early moments, when it was a variant of Judaism). That’s why your characterization was reductive.
