Anyway, I review books. Here's my latest review of The Collector by Jon Fowles.
An audiobook today. I learnt about this book while researching Leonard Lake and Charles Ng, a pair of serial abductors ( amongst various other heinous crimes) in the mid-80s. Jon Fowles ‘The Collector’ was Lake's favourite book, and a lot of his motivation stemmed from this short novel to the point where his escapades were spiked down to looking for his Miranda. So, this book aside, you can imagine it is a true crime, nerves, wet dream. The book follows Frederick, a lepidopterist/photographer who becomes obsessed with Miranda, a young art student. After winning a substantial amount of money Frederick forms a plan to capture Miranda’s affection I don't want to spoil this book for any potential readers, but despite this book's obvious conclusion, the emotional ride this book takes you on, it is outstanding. The amount of depth Fowles brings out of both characters leaves you with a sense of remorse for each of them. I cannot recommend this book more to people it was an absolute pleasure to read/listen to and I feel like I'll be revisiting this one in the future
