Fingers crossed I’ll be able to take these sleek new open-gangway CQ400 trains to/from ATL later this month. What a great upgrade for MARTA and Atlanta. Also, couldn’t have picked a more ruggedly beautiful station to film this in (Source: XgGamergX via Reddit).

With its 10 Monets, Gallery #81 at the National Gallery of Art is the most beautiful room in D.C., and for a moment this morning I had it all to myself.

But always worth it for this view.

Unfortunately, can add row 7 (in car 9 only?) to the list of business-class seats with misaligned windows. Upon further research, it looks like you have to check car by car whether your row’s view will be obstructed. www.reddit.com/r/Amtrak/s/q...

The time has finally come (to experience the new Acela trainsets).

Skipped the D so I could take the M. Electric vibes in the city today. 🚇

$3 bookstore find, a perfect read in the run-up to NYC’s general election.

Bullied into seeing an 8:30am 70mm showing of One Battle After Another but as they say, somehow, [sleepiness] feels good in a place like this.

Really need the new trainsets to address the outrageous Acela prices, which show $900+ for a timely weekend roundtrip ~1 month from now. Quite the opposite of a public service!

Big Basil (Grande Basilico?) has clearly taken control of Costco’s canned Italian whole peeled tomato supply. Just give us plain!

Spent way too much on good fresh tomatoes (another trade-war casualty), but worth it to make Hetty Lui McKinnon’s Dumpling Tomato Salad with Chile Crisp Vinaigrette

Inaugural trip to my new local Italian grocer (Liuzzi!); inaugural pasta in the new place (David Tanis’s summer pasta with zucchini, ricotta, and basil)

On days like today, Capital Bikeshare’s dockless option for its e-bikes is extra appreciated. Take note, @citibikenyc.bsky.social!

The absence of color from our federal buildings this year is palpable, but D.C. is still decorated and ready for World Pride 2025!

Delighted to discover that northern Portugal, like France and its noisette, has a regionalized name for espresso macchiato (the best coffee drink imo): the pingo. This new knowledge was also quite a relief after several unintended cappuccinos.

I’ve been searching the East Coast for my perfect beach—transit-accessible, pedestrianized town, and of course, gorgeous sand, waves, and dunes. But maybe I’ve been searching on the wrong side of the Atlantic! Now just need a direct flight to Porto from IAD.

Nothing here yet... but if these Acela prices don't get more reasonable once they have more trainsets, I might be on the Reg for the foreseeable future. (This is a selectively high Monday am trip in June, but still bonkers prices, especially more than a week out.)

The Porto Metro is really showcasing the beauty and versatility of light rail, and its pedestrian affinity. Cc: Key Bridge and Georgetown, D.C.

There are 38 days of spring left, which means we should have an announcement about the impending rollout of Acela Avelia Liberty trainsets any day now... right?
