Is there a British town called Buggerall? If not, someone really needs to get on that.

weird bit of useless trivia: not only did John Adams and Thomas Jefferson die on the same day, July 4, 1826 (50 years after the date associated with a famous declaration), but that was also the day that Stephen Foster was born. Oh, doo-dah day.

Random fact: Pope John Paul II was made an honorary Harlem Globetrotter.

I guess the biblical line "You shall do no injustice in court" could also be "You shall do no injustice on the court."

1991, my summer traveling around Europe, seemingly everywhere one would come across young German women singing snippets of a song: "La da DEE La da da."

I made a few efforts to figure out what song it was, but I never knew what song they were singing until today. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Kzt...

as an experiment, I asked ChatGPT for the five weirdest news stories of 2024. I'm pretty sure all of them were fake, probably from spoof news. One was about a gravity glitch onboard an orbital hotel. So our nascent AI overlords struggle telling fake from real news too. Not just your red-hat uncle.

Had AI write a two-sentence nonsense story:

The giraffe decided to open a sushi restaurant in the middle of the desert, claiming that the sand was perfect for aging tuna. Unfortunately, its first customer was a cactus, which was more interested in discussing the weather than ordering food.
