TIL Running Man was called "Battle Runner" in Japanese and one of the Japanese editions of the book had this cool photo (illustration?) of Arnold on the cover. Between the name and the flared collar in the photo, you could *almost* think they were trying to go for a Blade Runner look.

Thought I was going crazy when I just now saw a photo of the Betty from Alien Resurrection and was like "are those...?" but apparently the ship was first designed as a model kitbash so those are very clearly VF-1 Valkyrie forearms hanging off the side there.

The Art of Angel’s Egg reprint (released this month to coincide with the 4k restoration) is a great way to revisit a long out of print book. For fans of Mamoru Oshii and Yoshitaka Amano it’s worth picking up though like the name suggests it’s really just artwork, very little text.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet (and is isn't even mentioned on Dark Horse's page for it), but the upcoming Gunsmith Cats Omnibus Book Three reportedly includes the original Riding Bean manga by Sonoda that ran in the short-lived Comic Noizy magazine.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet (and is isn't even mentioned on Dark Horse's page for it), but the upcoming Gunsmith Cats Omnibus Book Three reportedly includes the original Riding Bean manga by Sonoda that ran in the short-lived Comic Noizy magazine.

So the kicker here is that the guy running it, Mike Kiley, went to go work for a new upstart in the industry to jump start their online retail business. The company? TokyoPop.

Digging through USENET archives and one thing that sticks out is how much people loved this place for decent prices, brand new product, and lots of special orders and recent releases. When the shop's closure was announced in November 1998, a lot of people were upset.

Tsukuda's Invasion of the Klingon Empire was released in 1982, around the same time they got into the bookshelf game market with a lot of boxed games based on anime series (and quite a few based on Trek and Star Wars, too). So this article was definitely a little ahead of the curve.

From the December 1981 issue of Hobby Japan, an article by Hideki Kakinuma (the same Kakinuma behind Gall Force, maybe?) about the Starships line of miniatures manufactured by Superior Models in the US. A lot of these were sorta kinda Star Trek and Star Wars inspired.

What stands out to me most about Acid Bufferzone is the shapes and silhouettes of the characters and designs. They’re familiar, but different and a bit otherworldly. Not too surprising from the guy who designed Pyramid Head for the Silent Hill game series.

On its face, Acid Bufferzone is a sort of art and model kit mash up that seems most similar to Kow Yokohama’s Maschinen Krieger but with a post-Soviet flair. That’s no untrue, but there’s a bigger focus on illustration work vs models here.
