Rerouting flights is one option, along with reducing soot emissions through introduction of new engine technologies and altering aviation fuel’s chemical composition. www.catf.us/2025/03/beyo...
Beyond carbon dioxide: Aviation needs a multi-pronged strategy to address contrails and reduce climate impacts
By tackling contrails alongside CO₂ emissions, we can make meaningful progress toward reducing aviation’s full climate footprint.

Sorry about the jargon, just excited for some motor content on Bluesky and soon on Volts!

Essentially, there are ways to make motors without using magnets at all. Why bother with non-rare-earth (therefore, weaker) magnets instead of ditching the magnets entirely?

There have been a couple of EVs with solar charging built in (like the Ioniq 5). I guess the range wasn’t worth the cost as they’re not offered anymore. Some new players (Aptera, Lightyear) have threatened to do better but not delivered yet.

Why would a customer choose a ferrite magnet PMSM instead of one of the many magnet-less designs? Like induction, wound field SM, salient pole, etc? It seems like an unhappy medium between those configurations and a PMSM with a strong magnet (like neo)

Palmer Luckey is probably more influential now than he was then. Anduril is winning some serious defense contracts like the Combat Collaborative Aircraft and challenging the status quo of the big defense primes

This was my first thought too (fellow aerospace worker) although it’s Commerce and State who enforce export controls, not DHS
