A servant of God cannot know the extent of his patience and humility as long as all goes well with him. But when a time comes that those who should treat him well do the opposite, then he shows the true extent of his patience and humility and no more. (Francis of Assisi)

When someone shares that they’re estranged from their family, they’re sharing that the life they hoped for no longer exists. They’re telling you about one of the most painful decisions they’ve made. Telling them there’s something they should be doing different is… not…ok.

Look at those who seem spiritually deep and find who has inspired them, those who they read for inspiration to draw close to Jesus, and read the same books they read. One way intimacy with Jesus is attained is by following in the footsteps of those who have discovered intimacy with Jesus.

Burnout is a social condition, not a medical/biological one. It can have physiological symptoms in some people, but it's caused by unhealthy working environments.

Why are so many pastors burning out? Take a look at the microenviroments they work in. I guarantee they are unhealthy and often toxic.

Find a quiet, secluded place so you won’t be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.

Burnout is not a lack of resilience - It's the end of resilience.

You continually bounce back from the dysfunction in your workplace. That's resilience.

However, the more you have to bounce back, at some point it gets harder and harder. When you can't bounce back anymore, that's burnout.

It's gingersnap gravy night! Every year, on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, I make a big batch of gingersnap gravy. We will have some on Thursday, but most of it will be frozen so we can have that sweet, spicy goodness throughout the winter.

Don't stay in a job where you are not valued as a human being.

We need to change the American tendency to treat workers as disposal commodities if we want a flourishing society.

In the absence of information, people will assume the worst.

Give enough information so there are no holes to fill with fear, anxiety, and assumption.
