Pretty extraordinary risk for hail and tornadoes in the PNW today (see HREF) - at @tlyza89.bsky.social's suggestion I ran the 1630z SPC tornado outlook through my ol' dissertation code to produce Relative Risk values for tornadoes of 1687 times greater than normal for south of Portland!

In focus groups with partners and the public, there was a lot of desire for the conditional intensity to be presented separately from the likelihood forecast. Public survey with split graphics saw similar outcomes vs the hatched ver., so we recommended using the more intuitive separated format. 3/4

First core finding was that we see large increases in concern/likelihood of response with users for the double hatching but not so much for single - and more so for Emergency Managers than the public. 2/4
