--to their art, it's different! I've seen other hands, tweaked it in ways, put emphasis on certain parts in ways that slowly deviated my style from theirs. Art is always growing. A 'style' is just you mushing all the little things you've learned together like clay. Moldable, deconstructable, etc.

My current approach to drawing hands was a very intentional choice by me. An artist I admire had a really clear and appealing way of drawing them, so I literally replicated different hands they'd drawn, got a feel for it, and just started using it all the time. If you compare how I draw hands now--

Doing this really helps with getting familiarity with how you want to approach drawing. And don't worry about it being "originally" some other artist's style. All art styles are a combination of everything an artist has ever seen mixed together with a dash of their personal touch.

--copying and tracing are only bad when using them for evil. They're tools! The way I learned my first approach to drawing bodies was by tracing draw the squad images and then putting characters I like on top. A lot of my early art was me trying to recreate art I loved. Do this! It's so fun!

It is always okay and actually good to take inspiration from the art you love. You learn by looking, you aren't going to just have it all in your head to start. Hell, find a piece you like and try to replicate it for practice! Obviously don't post this under the pretense it's yours, but--

Also, don't be afraid to copy other artist's homework. Obviously I don't mean in a stealing way, like, you know that I don't need to say it. But if you like how something looks, just start doing it. Look at examples of their art and draw the part you like from reference.

Practice happens naturally when you're just drawing something that makes you happy. This isn't very useful for intentional, planned out practice, but next time you find yourself thinking about a story or a character a lot, try drawing something about it.

Find something you really like and draw as much as you can about it. Don't worry about making the one perfect piece that will encapsulate this thing you like. Just start going ham. Put some guys in a situation. Draw the same guy standing the exact same way 5 times.

um, /genuine question, i realize this might look like an accusation if taken the wrong way. I'm merely curious.

Is DrRETRO's outfit inspired by anything? I feel like I've seen similar things crop up recently and I'm curious if it's just a coincidence or not.

To say it a different way- and I'm sorry for replying twice, I just feel strongly about this- you are already a real yearner. If you want to create, then you have the capacity to do so. Logic and creativity are not mutually exclusive. They often work together.

All art created with the intent of art is art. This is for people who show up to an experience and only ever expect logic. If the experience you want to express is logical, then it can be, and so it is. Not all art is, but a logical approach to creation does not diminish the act of creation itself.
