A frost advisory has been issued for all of southeastern Iowa through 9:00am Thursday. Temperatures as low as 30° are expected. Now is the time to bring in or cover up any plants you want to protect!

Flash flooding and severe thunderstorms are possible today as strong storms develop this afternoon. Heavy rainfall of 1-3 inches is likely, with higher amounts possible. The strongest storms will be capable of tornadoes, hail, damaging winds. The greatest risk of severe weather is from 2:00-8:00 pm.

A line of thunderstorms may produce areas of strong to damaging wind gusts this evening across the state. The tornado risk will stay mainly in northern Iowa. The greatest chance for severe thunderstorms in our area will be from 5-10pm. Heavy rainfall (1-2”+) may occur in the strongest storms. #iowa

A heat advisory has been issued for southeastern Iowa until 7:00pm this evening. Heat index values of 95 to 105 degrees are expected with air temperatures in the lower 90’s.

Thunderstorms will continue to move southeast over the next few hours. Cloud to ground lightning, small hail, and heavy downpours are likely in the strongest storms. A couple storms may become severe.

Heat builds this week with temperatures in the 90’s on Wednesday. Scattered thunderstorms will be likely late in the week with more comfortable temperatures returning.

Conditions are favorable for the development of funnel clouds, and possibly brief, weak tornadoes through 7:00pm. The National Weather Service will continue to closely monitor the situation, and may issue a Tornado Warning if the threat increases. If you see a funnel cloud or tornado, seek shelter.

From late Monday afternoon through the evening hours, thunderstorms could produce large hail, damaging winds, and a couple of strong tornadoes. Although not everyone will experience thunderstorms, any storms that do develop are expected to be strong to severe. Rain is predicted for Wed. and Thu.

Severe weather is possible from 5-10pm. Large hail, damaging winds, and an isolated tornado are possible in the strongest storms.

A cooler start to the week is ahead before temperatures return to the 70’s. Winds could gust over 40mph at times during the afternoon hours on Monday and Tuesday. Dry conditions will continue, with only small chances for rain.

Thunderstorms will have the potential to produce large hail later tonight. Storms will develop after midnight and move northeast.

Storms could redevelop in the morning/early afternoon. If storms develop during this time frame, large hail, damaging wind gusts, and an isolated tornado, are possible.

Overnight thunderstorms could produce isolated areas of large hail. The storms will be most likely to occur between 11pm and 4am in southeastern Iowa.

A few storms will be capable of damaging winds, hail, and an isolated tornado during the morning and afternoon Wed. Non-thunderstorm winds will be gusting up to 65mph in the areas under a high wind warning (1:00-10:00pm). A wind advisory (1:00-7:00pm) has been issued for wind gusts up to 55mph.

Monday and Tuesday will be very warm and breezy with an elevated fire risk. Widespread rainfall is likely late Tuesday night into Wednesday with the potential for a changeover to snow Wednesday night. Rainfall amounts will reach 1-2” in many locations.

Severe thunderstorms are still possible through 10:00pm in eastern Iowa. Winds now look to be more in the 50-70mph range and the tornado threat has also diminished some. Once the thunderstorms pass, there will be a couple hours of non-thunderstorm 50-60mph wind gusts. #iowa #storm #iawx

Severe thunderstorms are likely between 6pm and 10pm. Damaging winds of 60-80+ mph and embedded tornadoes are the primary threats. Large hail up to 2” in diameter is also possible along and south of I-80. These storms will be moving at over 60 mph, so you will have VERY LITTLE time to seek shelter.
