#OnThisDay in 1958, the St. Louis Cardinals make Stan Musial the highest-paid MLB player by giving him a contract worth $100,000/year. After what Musial considered a sub-par performance in 1959, he requested a PAY CUT to $80,000/year in 1960. It was granted.
