For what to expect:
-Be wary of long load times if you do not save the game on an SSD
-Some attacks will randomly linger, so even if you block you can get hit after
-And the timing of some finishers is wonky where they won't go off sometimes.

Let me revise what I said, I would not recommend this game unless you can stand playing through clearly outdated designs.

I'll eventually play the remake of the first and possibly get the remake of the second for Star Ocean and man do I hope it's designed better than this game.

One forum comment I saw suggested playing as the healer and letting the other 3 do all the fighting on their own since the ai is better at fighting. So basically suggesting to not actually play the game at all.

Like how am I supposed to play around my party ai being incredibly stupid and standing in every attack and cornering themselves to get picked off by the boss and ads?

Again with it feeling like the devs just hate the player. This specific boss feels like it's meant to just punish you for not using the mechanics that the devs didn't design around encouraging you to use.

Well, after my computer failing to find boot device and finally getting it checked and fixed, I ended up not finishing this game.

This specific boss is just so annoying and dumb. Look up forums and it's just "use the mechanic, it's easy". But it's not cause of so many ads offing your party.

This only further vindicates my opinion that there's a bad habit of RPGs being well thought out for the first 1/2. And then the last like 1/3 to 1/4 throws the core philosophy out.
(not all RPGs, I know)

I understand RPGs can get long, but then that requires you as a dev to better plan things out.
