I referenced that beauty for this pixel art project.

I still plan to shoot proper photos but I'm calling the Small Hours kitbash golem complete. I think I started this model around May of 2024. Looking forward to starting the next.

Small Hours keeps telling me it tires of all the paint glazes. It's nearly time to put it out in the world to experience its own path.

Today i added a dot filter of oil paint to Small Hours. You might have to zoom in on the photos but the dots of oil get streaked until they nearly disappear. It adds colour depth and is another layer to the weathered effect.

With the biggest hurdles of the Small Hours golem out of the way I'm making a little more time for other models.

Started the base values on this slick Father Stanley model from @simonroy.bsky.social

Time to pick oil paints for washes.

This week i re-learned how to do waterslide decals.

The first waterslide decals I've laid down in maybe two years. Feels good when they land correctly.

Every stage of painting Small Hours has been a thrill. I'm not too far from adding decals and then i can weather it.

Lots to do, as usual, but all worth the effort.

Small Hours is an asymmetric golem where the left arm is a different design than its right. This gives a fun excuse to paint the left arm yellow.

I did a pink undercoat to prevent the green tint of thin yellow over a dark base.

I was having so much fun laying paint on the Small Hours kitbash last night I didn't want to go to bed.

Doing lots of glazes to build colour depth. Still tons to do but I snapped a few shots this morning before heading to work.

Every day that my shop is quiet I swing between wishing i could continue painting my model and worrying that the world forgot my business and I won't be able to afford hobbies.

Laying in styrene for the next build, as well as teflon tubing which makes for incredible nozzles on superglue bottles.

I'll refine the sponge drybrushing with hand brushing to work up selected areas and also build some 'grain' and direction with materials. Next i need to select a colour scheme!
August 31, 2025 at 12:59 PM
I'm nearly finished my light sourcing pass on the Small Hours kitbash. Starting with a black base and using a makeup sponge to drybrush increasingly lighter layers favouring upper surfaces. This will all get overpainted but will bake richer highlights and shadows into the paint.
August 31, 2025 at 12:59 PM
Black base on Small Hours and I'm now building up values starting with some dark purple and violet. I'll switch to greyscale next and work up to white. Then i can glaze paint.

It should be part of your new account walkthrough but it's important to go into bluesky's moderation settings and turn off pearl-clutcher mode. Make sure to click on that 'Bluesky Moderation Service' button as well because there are more settings buried in there.

Second coat. My Tamiya can is empty and for the time-being new ones cannot be imported to Canada. Debating using Tru-Color dark primer next; spray from below to gain more coverage while also building some light sourcing into the primer layer.

First coat of primer on Small Hours. This thing is going to guzzle my can of Tamiya surfacer and demand more.

The physical form on the Small Hours kitbash is just about complete. I'm really looking forward to getting it sprayed with primer so that the form will read easier.

Close to finalizing the head on the Small Hours kitbash golem.
