8 Amazing Wreck Dives in Southeast Asia

The HTMS Chang is Thailand’s largest shipwreck dive site, located near Koh Chang. Originally a U.S. Navy landing ship tank (LST-898) commissioned during World War II, it was later transferred to the Royal Thai Navy and renamed HTMS Chang. In 2012, it was intentionally sunk to create an artificial reef. David Petit/CC BY-SA 2.0 On 24 September 1944 the US Navy bombed 24 Japanese supply ships anchored around Coron Bay and Busuanga Island in the Philippines. The Americans caught the Japanese by surprise and sank many ships, twelve of which are regularly dived. The area has some of the best wreck diving in Southeast Asia. The wrecks are not deep, from 3 to 43 m with most lying from around 18 to 24 m. USS Liberty Glo / Liberty USAT, Tulamben, Bali Rated one of the best dives in the world, the Liberty lies on a black sand slope almost parallel to the beach. It is just 30 metres from the shore. This dive site is suitable for all levels of qualification and experience. The wreck lies in depths from 9-30 m; the shallowest part of the wreck, where it touches the sand slope, is at 5-10 m. Depth along the middle of the wreck is 16-20 m. The lower edge of the wreck, i.e. furthest down the slope, is 20-28 m (at high tide). The wreck is 120 m long, it's pretty broken up (i.e. no penetration possible) but you can still see the guns, toilets, boilers, anchor chain, etc. It is a lovely dive site, possibly the world's easiest wreck dive. Also known as the USAT Liberty, USAT stands for United States Army Transport.

Stinging fish - which cause divers the most pain?
