This is so true. I would highly recommend that every white man commute to work or around town on a bike once a week or so. You get just a taste of the kind of vulnerability everyone else feels much of the rest of the time, and that we so […]

It feels weird to make it to so few protests these days. I feel like I'm not doing my part. But the combination of council meetings between 1 or more nights a week and two little kids just makes it feel very hard, because it's already tricky keeping the kids on an even keel.

I remind other […]

I just saw my first gross "the Epstein files shows it was a Jewish conspiracy all along" post (on a suggested post on Facebook, yuck).

A while ago an ex strongly encouraged me to read Pinker's work, and I found it insufferable and unfinishable but didn't quite pinpoint why, so many thanks to whoever shared this: https://www.currentaffairs.org/news/2019/05/the-worlds-most-annoying-man

Reminder:
Degrowth UK plans to run a series of articles as a stock-take of degrowth and ecosocialism worldwide.
Details and how to submit:

Call for articles: Degrowth and Ecosocialism: the global picture
Degrowth UK plans to run a series of articles as a stock-take of degrowth and ecosocialism worldwide. We envisage two types of contribution. 1) Short pieces (up to 2,000 words) summarising the situation with regard to degrowth thinking and practice at a country level (or for large countries at a more regional level). 2) Longer pieces (up to 5,000 words) reviewing the state of degrowth and ecosocialism in relation to key issues, such as colonialism, imperialism and decolonisation; geopolitics; , feminism; racism; disability; class; collapse. We are also open to contributions that don’t fit nicely into the above two categories but which nevertheless address the overall ‘worldwide’ theme (do discuss with us first). Contributions may focus on degrowth or ecosocialism, or both. However, since this is a degrowth network website, they must be broadly in tune with the philosophy of degrowth. Contributions should be sent to degrowthuk@steadystatemanchester.net. They will be reviewed by the degrowth uk coordinators. Style and format should be broadly consistent with that of previous articles on this site. Illustrations should be open-access or have the relevant permission for their use. Articles will be published under a creative commons licence. [unskilled linux nonsense]

I can work out linux stuff but it's always the most ridiculous bodgy solutions.

Like, okay, I've worked out how to do manual backups to a hard drive/USB again, like Back in the Old Days.

Except my unique and probably embarrassing solution involves looking at drive […]

I love the chats I have with my kids on the bike.

Yesterday, out of nowhere, the 3yo suddenly asked, "How did you learn to speak Greek?"
"Well, I went to classes and I practiced a lot!"
"Can you teach me?"
"I can try!"

So I taught him a few words, which then devolved into him pointing at […]

Step 1* of my shift away from big tech is done! No more dropbox!
