It's pretty ironic for people who claim to care about "safe, sane, and consensual" to suddenly get angry when someone has boundaries. "We care about consent! Everyone has the right to say YES! But if you say, No, then we're going to harass and shame and name-call you!"

Sounds like Andy here is the alien visiting from another planet.

Anyway shout out to corinne busche who used being "grey ace" to deflect valid criticism of the dev team's clear and deliberate aphobia and exclusion of ace rep, rather than advocating for the community she claims to be a part of.

The logic is, "If you just give it a chance, even though you're reading it for the wrong reasons, you'll realize it's amazing and like it as much as me." or "You just haven't read the right one yet. Read this, or this-- They're really good you just have to keep reading until you like them!" etc.

It's social pressure--bottom line. When an author is popular, fans constantly pressure others to "read and like" the books in order to fit in. I've literally had people lie about representation or downplay certain content in novels in order to trick me into reading books.

Kirby was fired from Bioware in 2023, so she isn't really the final word on anything having to do with the character, even if I believed she was being genuine (she wasn't). Especially since Corinne Busche straight up said ace people aren't in the game. But yeah, keep giving the aphobes a pass.

Honestly, people like you need to ask for more. Settling for vague insinuations and insulting defenses like "it wasnt important because his story isnt about that" is not improving rep for the community. Kirby didn't think it was important to include? Then she didn't write an ace character.

This is a game for adults made by devs who claim to care about queer people and inclusivity, right? Why, then, *couldn't* she have been more clean if that was her intent? There are no canon aspec characters in Dragon Age. This would have been a big deal. As it is, it's NOTHING but online posturing.

Kirby is trying to claim she provided a marginalized group rep when that "rep" is not present the actual game. Sorry to break this to you: it IS the same thing.
