Alfie, our beloved out-of-season butterfly, passed away moments ago. We sat outside so she could pass with nature. We learned a lot about black swallowtail butterflies and look forward to seeing her siblings this Spring. We are happy she was in our lives.❤💔🦋

Here she is in her new habitat. I can take her outside when it's warm, like today (63°F). We sat outside for a little this afternoon.

Day 5, we renamed her Alfie, and she seems to be eating. She likes the Gatorade more than the fruit. We got a 36" high net habitat for her so we can take her outside when it's warm. It should be over 50 degrees the next three days...but just for a bit! Then, back to her bathroom. 🦋❤🤷🏻♀️

Butterfly update Day 4: We found her on the floor yesterday so we moved her to a half bath with a window. She's flying now. Does anyone know how far north on the East Coast of the US they can live this time of year? We'll relocate her if we can.🦋 #butterfly #gardening #insectidentification

Butterfly Update, Day 3: She is still with us, and has watermelon and cantaloupe on her windowsill buffet (looks like salmon and tuna sushi!🤣). She's flying a little bit, but isn't leaving the window. I think she's looking wistfully outside, but it's too cold for her. We all love her.
