Held my first class of the semester last night and WOW did it feel amazing to get to teach in person for the first time. It’s a small class, just 6/8 students showed up but of them, 4 were deeply engaged. I can’t wait to get to work with them over the next 12 weeks!!

I’m currently working on a facilitators’ guide for a workshop on writing emails or letters to local elected officials. It’ll be adaptable to any group and I’m happy to share the resource when it’s done. I’m open to ideas or resources you might have for making it impactful for participants!

"The New Segregationists" is a more accurate headline.

You could go through nearly this entire article replacing "anti-DEI" with "segregationist," and it would work.

Homogeneity is the opposite of diversity, which is what they aim for.

This is the most brainfried corporate gay thing I've ever seen.

This is the personification of a Rayetheon pride float
"Alex Schultz, the company’s chief marketing officer and highest-ranking gay executive, suggested in an internal post that seeing their queer friends and family members abused on Facebook and Instagram could lead to increased support for LGBTQ rights."
NEW: Platformer has obtained the dehumanizing new guidelines moderating what people can now say about trans people on Facebook and Instagram. Employees tell me these changes are likely to inspire more violence against LGBT people: www.platformer.news/meta-new-tra...

2. Stratification
3. Contemporary sociological theory
4. Capitalism and the economy
5. Authority and the state

Bonus points if it’s open access!

The best thing to come out of my grad school experience was meeting my best friend soul mate. She left yesterday after spending about a week with us and using her doula skills to support us. I am so lucky to have a best friend like her.

What are your favorite peer reviewed journal articles centering class identity/poverty/Socioeconomic status?! Also interested in articles that look at stratification. I’m trying to pair at least 1 peer reviewed article with each chapter I’m assigning from an OER textbook for my intro to SOC class.

Still working on putting together my 101 syllabus and looking for recommendations! It’s been a while since I’ve taught the class (2018 😮) and I’ve also been working in primarily alt-academic settings since 2021. What are some of your favorite readings to assign in sociology 101?!
