Same situation here, have ended up doing 17 years together (so far) at Shels.
We get tickets for Liverpool a few times a year so the original plan was to go to a few LOI games...had season ticket after 1 season

A nationalistic Israeli government.

I am not arguing that Israel or arabs are correct. I am merely pointing out that Nakba is a word which is used with a myth attached to it. You think that is showing support to children being bombed, which is silly. Btw both sides are bombing children, sadly.
November 19, 2024 at 7:12 PM
It was then compounded from the late 60s onwards by Israel becoming less defensive and more like imperialists in the areas were refugees were living.
November 19, 2024 at 2:23 PM
To ignore the original reason for the refugee crisis by saying "but we use this word now" is lazy.
Both Israel and Arabs are/were to blame for a catastrophe originally caused by the Arab League trying to wipe out jewish settlers rather than trying to work with the imperfect two state solution.
November 19, 2024 at 2:21 PM
It's dishonest to change the original cause of Nakba and rewrite history, then run with it as if it is a fact. That their is a massive refugee displacement is correct, but the reasons and the rewording of an event isn't.
The Mufti's direction occurred before Israel was formally established.

There is literally a quote from Jodey Arrington.
Then there is reference to a number of think tank ideas by groups influential in Trumps sphere.
November 19, 2024 at 10:03 AM
"When the battle broke out, our public diplomacy began to speak of our imaginary victories, to put the Arab public to sleep and talk of the ability to overcome and win easily – until the Nakba happened…We must recognize the extent of our responsibility for the disaster that is our lot."
November 19, 2024 at 9:55 AM
Israel didn't exist during the original displacement. It was involved in future displacements obviously.

My point is you are using Nakba as if it always applied to displacement of refugees, you are also denying the crucial role played by the Mufti who shafted his followers.
November 19, 2024 at 9:52 AM
It isn't a denial of the refugee situation, it is about the concept of what Nakba means. Your definition was only used from the 90s.
The role of the Mufti was key to original displacement.
Look up the original use of Nakba by Zureiq in 1948. Also see the PLO foundation doc which doesn't mention it.
November 19, 2024 at 7:44 AM
Original meaning of Nakba had nothing to do with forced removal. It referred to the military disaster of the arabs in 1948. The displacement of people occurred prior to the 1948 war when the Mufti instructed Arabs to move out of 'Israel' on the promise they would move back when the arabs won
