Yes and no. I think it’s a deeply flawed game and easily the worst of this “era” of the franchise… that being said it is far from a bad game and just unfortunate to be sandwiched between two of the best RPGs of the generation which also happen to be in the same series as it.

So long as we all agree, 13 doesn’t count.

(For legal purposes, I am joking, I think 13 is the worst but if it’s your favourite more power to you)

They're mostly all good games but a hard sell to people not already inclined to exactly what kind of game they are. Awakening and following entries kept what was already good about the games and made them more palatable for people who weren't already fans.

Mostly that yes; in my experience permadeath being mandatory is a HUGE turn off to many people. Permadeath is a niche experience which can be very frustrating, especially in a series where the characters are a big draw, and anecdotally I know many just don't want to deal with it.

There's also the fact older Fire Emblems are very non-newcomer friendly. Awakening's big success to me was making the series accessible, providing the hardcore experience for old fans who wanted it still but opening the series up to people who might find it a brick wall to entry.

Think it comes to the problem of Ragatha being a bit... passive? It's hard to build a whole episode around a doormat, it's why I think it's better to consider Episode 5 and 6 kind of a joint effort for her.

To me it was always more about if my choices FELT like they mattered. Ultimately even more recent games like Dispatch for the most part follow a pretty similar path no matter what, but in the moment when written well every choice feels like life and death.

Like say what we like about X-2 or the VII milking, those were very beloved and successful installments. Who exactly was the trilogy and nearly spin off of XIII for?
January 7, 2026 at 11:02 AM
Final Fantasy XIII and that whole sub-series just has the feel of being ONE person’s like super awesome special writing project only they really cared about. Not to say the artists, composers, VAs and so on didn’t work hard but it just has the air of a vanity project and Lightning…. Yeah…..

I tried but I stopped on Episode 5. It’s not really funny bad just a slog and I can’t get by on pure dislike, I need unintentional comedy.

Wasn’t this the plot of one of the Animatrix shorts?

Groening basically caricatured his own family members in a rush to not hand over the rights to his comic strip, presumably his dad was older than Homer is meant to be.

No offense to them but... absolutely nothing about them visually is remotely worth that price. Not saying they're bad, they look nice quality, but I've got plushes that look just as nice that didn't cost a fifth of that.

I think it's that "he's so real!" part I've never seen; to me he comes off like such a "I'm a rough guy from a rough background" poser, not that he's a bad promo and I know that IS his background, just it never doesn't feel like a performance to me.

One of these days I'll get what people see in Eddie Kingston. It's not today apparently.
