Worth noting that a fundamental change to the way the BBC is funded, or its public service remit, has substantial knock on's. The UK's broadcast landscape is hugely enriched by a competitive BBC challenged by a successful commercial sector, and vice versa.

Changing that principle will cost dear.

The BBC also says that episode one of the first series is the biggest single episode on TV so far this year with 14.8m views (28+ day figures)
