Some pics from a super week of fieldwork, and finally some good rain after 6 weeks of hardly receiving a drop.

With the weather warming up here in Queensland, it’s understandable that sometimes you might want to sleep with a leg out from under the blanket. 🐨🐨🌳🌳

Ok, anyone prepared to go out on a limb (pun intended) and guess which koala is male and which is female? Will disclose the signs in the comments a little later.

Most people that hit a koala on the road aren’t speeding, being careless or nasty people, they’ve simply experienced an unavoidable incident.
I’ve attended three vehicle strikes in the last week and in all instances the drivers involved called for help, giving the koalas a second chance. 🙏🙏🙏 🐨🐨🐨

Checked up on two (now 3 😀) of our post release rehabilitated koalas on Sunday. Both females were treated for chlamydia infection but now back out doing what koalas do. 🐨🌳

The footprint of the Grampians fire warning area is now huge. Hopefully the worst doesn’t eventuate as the westerly wind change comes through.

I spent today on Cape Otway visiting the koala population. This spot sparked my initial interest in koala ecology as a teenager. The population has its issues but its always a privilege being there.

Whilst koala trauma season has started off surprisingly slow this year it looks to now be rapidly accelerating with some warmer weather. This little one was ejected from its mother’s pouch during a dog attack. Thankfully now receiving veterinary care and looking to make a full recovery.

Squeezed a quick frog walk in before the cooler weather starts. A few Great Barred and Green Tree frogs around.

For 5 or 6 hours people drove around this eastern grey kangaroo without stopping to check her pouch. Her joey’s chance of survival reduces quickly without warmth and milk. Please stop to check. A pair of gloves and a pillow case is all that’s needed.
