Your kids are not little versions of you; they are little versions of themselves. So, don't be sad or alarmed whenever they are becoming something different from you. Because, they will become *lots* of things that are different from you, and that's arguably the whole point. (1/2) #merlinswisdom

“Most parents understand it's their job to keep their child from dying. But, as the kid gets older, it also becomes increasingly vital not to prevent them from living. This is very difficult.”

Is there a bigger scam than gym memberships?
Monthly rate is actually every 2 weeks. So a chart showing $35 for the monthly rate is actually $70/month.
Then there is the $40 sign up fee.
Don’t forget the annual $25 maintenance fee. What maintenance? For the machines I’m paying twice monthly to use.

Waiting on hold with customer support and hearing, “your call may be recorded for training purposes” means something different now than it did a few years ago, doesn’t it?

I made something this weekend to help check the data in my SQLite databases. I can view and sort tables and rows and use a local LLM through ollama to help write SQL queries.

It’s 2025, the year where your friends are talking about AI leading to the destruction of society in one group chat while another chat with most of the same people is using AI to make a Seussian retelling of Apocalypse Now.
What a time to be alive.

Exciting new project:
I thought I still had my VHS-C tapes with riding from 1993 and 1994, but at least I have these. One tape has 2Hip King of Vert which must be 1989 and it’s where Hoffman pulled the 1st 900. Also Jay Mirin riding a skatepark when he was first sponsored by GT.

That feeling when your son sends you a song and says, “this reminds me of the Mountain Doats and I think you’ll like it” and he’s right.

It only took him 35 years to make the team. We’re both from the generation of BMX where everyone knew everyone else across western Canada.
Dave Osato’s parents would drive them from Winnipeg to Medicine Hat to ride with us for a weekend before they could drive.

For decades North America has moved manufacturing to China and now a foolish old conman is trying to reverse decades of infrastructure and automation while flip flopping on tariffs.
I’m sure it will work out just fine…

A teachers job is to teach and assess learning and they can use many tools to do their job.
A students job is to learn and you can use an LLM to augment learning, but if it writes the student’s essay or solve math problems, the student isn’t learning.
Is it fair to use A.I. to grade student essays, if you’ve prohibited students from using A.I. to write them?

Teachers are increasingly using the technology in their own work, like grading essays and tutoring struggling students, even as they express profound hesitation about its ethics.
Teachers Worry About A.I. for Students. For Themselves It’s Another Matter.
Educators are increasingly using generative A.I. in their own work, even as they express profound hesitation about the ethics of student use.
