I attended the 2025 James River Writers Conference.

Along with the keynote address by Angie Kim regarding writing later in life, there were many notable panels exploring the writing life.

Aspects of Narration applies E. M. Forster's Aspects of the Novel to a novel (The Flicker of Old Dreams by @litpark.bsky.social ), a memoir (We Are Too Many by Hannah Pittard), an essay, and a short story.

In Scott Solomon's Writerly News, "Ode to Short Pump" looks back at a once-rural area of Virginia that inspired one of my published stories.

Ode to Short Pump
I grew up in Tuckahoe Village, a subdivision of starter homes in Henrico County in the far west end of Richmond, Virginia.

Recently, I undertook the task of moving back to my hometown. Had I not made this exhausting yet exhilarating effort, I would have been filled with regret for the rest of my life. Now, every morning, I awaken to a view of one of Richmond’s community gardens.

I recommend “The Sweetest Girls” by Elaine Palencia. Like all the work in Women Speak, this story is not full of stereotypes conjured by a politically opportunistic man. Instead, these are the Appalachian voices of strong, real women who value their heritage.

Hi. I received blue-sky wings on 12/20/23. My fiction has appeared in many literary magazines. I am currently at work on a novel.

Keeping up with social media is a Sisyphean task. Here’s hoping the skies in this site remain in reach and blue.
