A recent project: this is what a newly-emerged sandbur flowerhead looks like when it's pulled apart with tweezers. The little, dark brown structures are flower parts. The spikes are still soft.
I've been helping at the dog park, to pull these off of the sandbur plants, before the "stickers" mature.
