Both Biden and Harris barely talked about their own climate policy in last year of the campaign. That left a void for Trump to fill with misinformation -- as he did with trans rights -- and no Democrat counter messaging. But moderate groups are explicitly advising Democrats not to discuss climate change. That message resonates with @schatz.bsky.social and @gallego.senate.gov who both told me they plan to use the frame of affordability to tout more clean energy deployment.

Some Democrats, like @seancasten.bsky.social, have won multiple races explicitly talking about climate change policy. @katmabu.bsky.social said young voters expect to hear about climate change. "We have to think about climate change, where we’re going to live...how it’s going to impact us.”

The GAI issued a "Riot Inc" report that Trump ordered the FBI, DOJ, DHS to investigate. It lists a wide range of environmental groups, including @sierraclub.org, @lcv.org, @350.org, @biologicaldiversity.org, @sunrisemvmt.bsky.social, as being part of some violent network. g-a-i.org/2025/06/19/r...

Another group, the Government Accountability Institute, met with "homeland security investigators" after the WH antifa roundtable a few weeks ago. That group is founded by Steve Bannon and bankrolled by Trump donor Rebekah Mercer, also a prominent climate denial group funder.

But now, even the head of the conservative CRC seems concerned by WH acting too aggressively. He wrote a WSJ op-ed yesterday calling for caution, urging Trump to make an "important distinction...between violating nonprofit laws versus breaching criminal laws." www.wsj.com/opinion/inve...

The Trump administration appears willing to go much further and possibly pursue criminal charges by linking opponents to antifa. A WH memo released last month, known as NSPM-7, established a broad definition of political violence, which could give Trump wide latitude to pursue its opponents.

The Capital Research Center, funded by dark money and foundations that support climate denial groups, helped Trump admin strategize. CRC told me they are now targeting green groups involved in protests where traffic is blocked, arguing minor violations of the law allow for removal of 501c3/4 status.
