I feel like a good use of AI would be to create a #BlackMirror -style internet blocker that hides all mentions of a former employer in news, job boards, ads, etc. You'd think LinkedIn, of all places, would have that as an option — cut all ties!

Something odd regarding ChatGPT: It doesn't seem to know about itself. There's no in-built chat bot that knows the product's capabilities per se, instead it will just look at websites and published sources to leverage as facts. Seems like an oversight from its handlers, no?

Can we get AI to help read and translate this data-dump of the Epstein Files? I can't be bothered reading correspondence with no capitals, no punctuation, improper contractions, etc. etc. etc. — how these people have any power in society is beyond me.

The phrase "slow and painful" is usually associated with your death at the hands of torturers, but it can be applied to anything, really. Traffic, bureaucracies, your job. Give it a try.

We typically spend 12–18 years in school, followed by 40–70 years talking about what we don't learn in school. Maybe we should give school a break and just learn things whenever you encounter them.

And maybe we can revive "Logorrhea" as a common word, but splice it with Algorithm ...

Neologism and portmanteau: "Algorrhea"

Uncontrolled algorithmically-generated spewing of words, often nonsensical in nature.
I think for discussions of AI-generated verbal slop, we should include the word "gurgitate", without its usual "re."

e.g., "I can tell AI wrote this because it managed to gurgitate 9 Em Dashes in 4 sentences."

@scottsigler.bsky.social what do you think of Alien: Earth’s running metaphor or Peter Pan? It felt more to me like a retelling of Frankenstein, or maybe Pygmalion.

@netflix.com Maybe the real Diplomats are the friends we made along the way.

@notion.com What are you doing with this icon-within-an-icon (macOS)? The previous version was fine. The freeform shape provided visual distinction which I could recognize at a glance. Now, I have to go make my own.

A good use for AI would be to help me find the political cartoon I saw that one time which I can never find again, even with refined googling.

Aesthetic hot take, bathroom edition:

Illuminated LED mirrors are great. A natural idea, whether they include backlight, frontlights, or both.

But why do no major hardware store chains carry even a single example of this category?

And why do they have touch buttons IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MIRROR!?

Just the guest. Nice.

Thanks for a fun ride.

PS, whatever happened to El Chupacabra?

Is it just me, or are airport bathrooms utterly not-designed for people with luggage. Passages, sinks, stalls, urinals are all the same as a Roy Rogers on the interstate. And yet, everyone here seems to have luggage.

What am I missing here?

Spotted these two boxes of Wednesday cereal in the store today. An interesting brand mashup to be sure, but isn’t it more strange that there is no Netflix logo on the box? I would think the easier approach would be a limited edition of Frankenberry and Count Chocula, but what do I know.

Christmas decorations in the hardware store. It is literally still September. It was over 100*F today.
