At the same time that the GOP claims that there is no money for health care, they've given Trump $46.5 billion for hundreds of miles of new border walls.

Here is one of the existing border walls this morning, accumulating ladders just as it has since the day it went up.

The Trump admin. recently awarded more than $4 billion in border militarization contracts, incl. 17 miles of buoys at Brownsville. The green line on CBP's map shows more: 59 miles of buoys in the Rio Grande running from Brownsville to the Gulf of Mexico.

Trump is building more border walls in Starr County, TX. Even before Congress gave him another $46.5 billion for wall construction, he had $$ leftover from his first time in the White House. Last week another 87 condemnations were posted.

This sleepy RGV Border Patrol agent doesn't seem to think there is much threat of an invasion.

Trump will still wall off the park his truck is pointing at with some of the $46.5 billion that the GOP just gave him for new border walls.

Quiet stretch of the Rio Grande on a beautiful day. No one in sight except for this big loud monster and a bored soldier.

Trump and his minions aren't concerned with national security, for them this is just visuals for content creation. For those of us who live here, that propaganda has an impact.

Here's the map of the Air Force's new base. It is the Rio Grande "bed to bank" in Hidalgo & Cameron counties. IBWC does not own the riverbed, and what is the Air Force going to do with a base that is entirely underneath the water of a river?

It's a pathetic lie used to grab land and claim power.

Senate Republicans just passed Trump’s misnamed “Big Beautiful Bill Act”. Among other horrible provisions it includes $46.5 billion for hundreds of miles of new border wall and murder buoys in the Rio Grande. Our home is being sacrificed for Trump’s racist and fascist agenda.

The bollards that Trump will use to build S TX border walls have manufacture dates from June 2020 and January 2021 - just prior to Biden's pause on border wall construction. I doubt that the contractor will lower the price as a result of receiving free materials.
June 30, 2025 at 2:03 PM
Border wall bollard panels stacked up in Mission, TX. Trump admin. has announced contracts to wall off the remainder of Hidalgo and Cameron counties. In some places they can start quickly, in other locations that will require condemning more private property.

This has been our reality for decades. The Supreme Court ruled in the 1970s that racial profiling at these checkpoints was OK, because how else would the Border Patrol do their job? So all they do is walk the drug dogs around the vehicle and racially profile the occupants.

Newly completed stretch of border wall in Starr county, TX upriver from Roma. It tears through habitat for a federally endangered plant, the Zapata bladderpod, but with environmental (and other) laws waived Trump can inflict all the damage and destruction he wants to.

Hard to get a sense of the scale of this border wall from ground level. Here is the footprint of this newly built wall in February, looking east with Roma, TX on the horizon. Photo by @myles-traphagen.bsky.social

Crews working on a Sunday afternoon to finish up a stretch of 30-foot-tall border wall just upriver from Roma, TX.

As CBP continues to condemn private property and the GOP gives Trump $46.5 billion in border barrier funding there is much more destruction to come.

With the Trump administration condemning property and building border walls in the Rio Grande floodpain in Starr County, the Starr County Appraisal District's website will no longer overlay the FEMA flood map onto those (and other) properties. Interesting coincidence.

Here is the border wall route through Starr County. Some of these walls have already been erected. These newest condemnations almost certainly fall along this line.

Trump condemning more property in Starr County, TX to build border walls that Congress funded during his first term. Republicans want to give Trump another $46.5 billion to build an additional 700 miles of new border wall and 900 miles of river barrier.

Our lives & homes mean nothing to the GOP.

The feds don't own a strip of land along the Texas border, so if 90 miles are to be given over to the military that will mean the LRGV and Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuges, and maybe Big Bend National Park.

Ladders piling up by the border wall is nothing new. Here is the same spot exactly 3 years ago:

Trump recently announced a contract to build new border walls in Hidalgo County, TX. How are the old border walls in Hidalgo County working out, one might ask?

This from this afternoon:

Hot off the University of Arizona Press comes Walled, including my chapter on the waiver authority that has been used to ignore laws that might limit the damage and desecration inflicted by border walls.

Big thanks to @andybissonnette.bsky.social and @elisabethvallet.bsky.social for this.

As soon as Trump took office border wall construction fired up, using appropriations remaining from his first administration. This swathe was bulldozed alongside the Rio Grande. Both photos are the same place on the same day.

There is no invasion, no excuse for this devastation.

On Friday March 7 an exhibition of my drawings titled Palimpsest will open at K Space Contemporary in Corpus Christi, TX. Y'all should go.

Congress is going to give Trump $billions$ for new border walls, at the same time that Musk is firing park rangers and cancer researchers in the name of govt. efficiency and cost savings.

Keep the rangers & researchers, and ditch the useless & destructive border walls.

A week after his J6 insurrection Trump stood beside this border wall that he had run through a wildlife refuge and claimed that he had saved the nation from an imaginary invasion. He signed a commemorative plaque which was then slipped out of its holder and is now probably hanging in Mar-a-Lago.
