It is supposedly hosted by Dennis Williams, a Vallejo native and lifelong Solano County resident and former journalist who worked for "over a decade writing for regional publications." I can't find any byline for Dennis Williams in Bay Area media or any other reference to him.

Been seeing a new "podcast" popping up on Instagram called "Vallejo Spotlight," which is supposedly highlighting small businesses. This is entirely AI generated and in the first few videos couldn't even pronounce Vallejo correctly.

Tabron said that he, former police Chief Shawny Williams, and other people who worked to reform the department received threatening anonymous phone calls and emails.

Williams and Tabron left the department in 2022 under hostility from the police officers union.

The deposition was part of a lawsuit brought by civil rights attorney Melissa Nold, who has been suing VPD for years.

Nold is trying to prove a custom or practice of violating Constitutional rights, which is very difficult to prove but could have a huge impact.

Whitney said he later discovered that Darden had been driving to police headquarters, leaving his car there, and spending time with the woman while claiming to be at work.

But Whitney said that Darden wasn't disciplined and a lieutenant covered it up.

Whitney also described another serious allegation about Lt. Steve Darden.

Two homicide suspects said in an interview that Darden was having an affair with their mother. A sergeant shut the interview down and let the suspects go.

Whitney also told a story about waiting for a search warrant at a homicide victim's house when Potts helped himself to some frozen corn dogs.

“It was wildly inappropriate to sit and eat somebody else's food who had just been murdered," Whitney said.

Whitney said that he learned about the separate filing systems from Sgt. Jason Potts, who was working in internal affairs. Potts kept the informal resolutions in his office.

Potts is now the chief of the Las Vegas Department of Public Safety.

Did the DA know about it? She won't say.

Whitney was also the whistleblower for the city's badge bending scandal (officers were bending the tips of their badges to mark shootings) and said he told DA Krishna Abrams about it, but she denied that.

So this could potentially impact years and years of criminal prosecutions. Whitney said he discovered it in 2015 but there's evidence it continued as recently as last year.

A former deputy police chief said in a lawsuit that he was looking into something similar and got fired.

Most importantly, former police Capt. John Whitney testified that the department had two filing systems in IA: One for completed investigations, and one for "informal resolutions" -- citizen complaints that were effectively buried.

VPD says it will take steps to reduce collisions during pursuits, instructing supervisors to keep new criteria in mind. But so far it is not proposing any policy changes, and its recommendation falls short of policing experts, who recommend much more stringent policies.

Notably, the number of pursuits involving VPD officers has increased as the number of officers has gone down. This was also true of use of force by officers, which some observers attributed to the departure of the former police chief. www.vallejosun.com/as-vallejo-p...

In both 2020 and 2021, VPD engaged was in the top 20 California agencies for initiating pursuits of nearly 500 statewide law enforcement agencies. They start more pursuits than other much larger departments. Here's some of the data we published from 2020:

Even the Vallejo city attorney's office is impatient with the state DOJ's investigation into the fatal Vallejo police shooting of Sean Monterrosa.
