The need to take public positions during the shutdown seems to have hardened the GOP position against the ACA, making it harder to win an extension on subsidies, even though more Republicans than Democrats have ACA policies. Bad for policy holders; probably bad for GOP.

To be fair, it's not just Trump. This has been the GOP position for 15 years. They repeated "Repeal and Replace" for years without holding a single hearing on what they would replace it with.
