Like limited search functionality, 3rd party apps like Outlook require a bridge to use. Those are the main ones with Proton. If you want to go with something even more private like Tuta the friction will be even more.

The next, and best, plan is the unlimited ($120/yr) but the value becomes a little more subjective if you don’t use all the other features included, like their VPN, password manager etc.. Also the more secure you want to go with an email service, there’s going to be some friction using it.

I love Proton. They’re a great company and have a very solid service. But it depends on what you need. If you go for the free plan it’s very limited and not really usable as a daily email. If you go up to the Mail Plus ($50/yr) it’s more usable but limited in storage and email aliases.
