Whales are important marine species and should be protected. Their role in the global ocean carbon cycle, however, may not be as large as sometimes suggested. Figure from recent synthesis article compares contribution of different animals to sinking carbon flux in the ocean.

Construction industry consumes large volumes of materials with high embodied emissions that impact decarbonization goals. New study uses a multiregional input-output (I-O) model to assess the impact of economic globalization and trade on the emissions embodied in materials used for construction.
