Ok, I might not have chosen the best example but if this hypothetical soft play business was 1) family owned and 2) large enough for IHT - it should be exempt?

Secondly, and I appreciate it's through necessity, but it no longer seems like a family farm. More a children's entertainment business with a farming sideline. From an IHT point of view why should it be treated differently than a soft play business on an industrial estate?

I'm still trying to understand their beef (sorry) regarding inheritance tax. If they did some IHT planning (got married, passed the farm on to son) then how much inheritance tax to pay?
