Today's memories- Romania 2012. For many in the UK the perception of Romania is based on the criminal gangs who come here. The actual country and it's people are amazing. The scenery, history, architecture, mythology, food- it seriously ticks all the boxes and I'd love to go back!

Today's photos-the Aberlemno Pictish crosses.It always amazes(and immensely pleases)me that these ancient carvings are still out in the open where they were first placed and freely accessible to all.We still don't know the full meanings of all the Pictish symbols,though there are plenty of theories!

The bottom 2 are Herman and Antonie,one from their own engagement and the other the wedding of their daughter Marichen.My great grandmother is the one in the white dress in the back. Her brother Anton, second from the right, did not survive the war. This photo is of Marichen and her very German son!

The top 2 are Herbert and Gertrude, names you don't often hear much nowadays. Herbert was a house painter and Gertie an office cleaner. They spent most of their lives in Battersea.They look like a very happy couple I think?
