IDK if the franchise was particularly huge but there was an earlier OVA that was apparently fairly OK (at least not a slideshow), so it might have gained some sort of fandom from that. And then they decided to make the sequel in a whopping 10 months, and the rest is history.

IMO the plan is more like Putin, Xi, and The Man In The White House control most of it and Kim gets all of Korea as a treat/appeasement

So update on this; tl;dr the situation was a lot more than a simple KoFi could handle and I ended up needing a bailout from my parents, something I wanted to avoid for a few reasons but that I’ve since come to terms with.
