VIRGINIA ORGANIZING'S STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR YOUNGKIN'S SUPPORT FOR DEPLOYING THE VA NATIONAL GUARD TO COOPERATE WITH I.C.E. ENFORCEMENT We are disheartened that Governor Youngkin has expressed support for utilizing state resources to deploy the National Guard on behalf of I.C.E. activity. Although we are not surprised by his alignment with President Trump's position on the matter, we are discouraged by the lack of humanity that is shown toward our immigrant communities in Virginia. This is not a service to his constituents. Not only does using the Virginia National Guard imply an unnecessary threat of force, but experts have also deemed the move to be "unusual" since deploying the troops into communities is generally reserved for national emergencies, like natural disasters. Youngkin's support for this action speaks to his perspective of the immigrant and immigrant-descended communities he serves. If the governor is willing to use state resources to cooperate with the I.C.E. agenda, we must question what other measures will be taken that will put our communities at risk. We deserve to feel safe in our own communities - all of us. Virginia Organizing is committed to empowering our communities to stand up for what is best for all Virginians, and to ensure that the needs of directly-affected members of our communities are met. WHEATPASTINE GUIDE WHEATPASTE RECIPE Ingredients • 1½ cup cornstarch • 1 gallon of water (16 cups) + extra • Half-batch: ½ cup cornstarch to 6 cups water Instructions MAKE CORNSTARCH STARTER: Measure 1½ cups of cornstarch into a bowl. Using a spoon, mix with enough room temperature water until you reach a smooth and thin soup consistency. BOIL WATER: Put one gallon of water (16 cups) on the stove and bring to boil. ADD STARTER: Once the water boils, turn off the heat and mix in the cornstarch starter. Add the starter slowly while stirring quickly with a whisk or fork. The starter should get incorporated into the entire gallon of hot water. LET COOL: Once it is well-mixed, allow the mixture to cool. It will thicken as it cools. This is your completed wheatpaste. TRANSFER: Transfer your wheatpaste into containers with a lid for easy storage. It is easier to transfer your wheatpaste into containers while it's still warm, before it thickens completely. STORE: In a sealed container in the refrigerator. HOW TO PUT UP POSTERS Supplies needed: • Large paintbrush • Container of wheatpaste • Posters • Scraper (optional) • Paper towels and bottle of water to clean up (optional)

The problem is that he's undermining democracy for all people. The people of DC who are in the streets marching against Trump's move straight out of the authoritarian playbook are Black, white, Asian, Native, and Latino. Members of the National Guard who've been illegally deployed are from every race. They've left families and jobs in their communities and are being used as props in a propaganda campaign. We need a fusion movement to nonviolently resist this madness. Black-only responses play into the divide-and-conquer tactics of this regime. We need moral resistance that calls all of us to higher ground. Don't fall for the race bait with Trump's takeover of DC. I realized this week that there is really no way for individuals to mobilize themselves, especially with no reliable media that is free to everyone. I'm going to stick with institutions that are built and already organized to help people. That is all that I as an individual can really do. Not doing the chicken little thing anymore.

Ancestors Pavilion at Walter Pierce Park in DC. This is the site of The Mount Pleasant Cemetery. It is a combined graveyard of the Quaker community that founded the area and a much larger African American graveyard. While signage is there along with this mural, it is really a soccer field, a playground, and apartments on top. Without the signage, you would never know that thousands of people are buried there sixty percent of which are children.

DC is serene on the surface. everyone I talked with today is scared shitless. DC residents are in the position of keeping their loved ones safe OR standing up against these Nazi bastards. we are all exhausted. But many of us still have less skin in the game. Time to make a big tent, folks.

I have been all over DC today. Was there a protest close to The Mall? Yes. Is the rest of this beautiful lib city functioning on the surface as BAU? Yes. Are residents exhausted and scared shitless as they go about their day? Yes.

Context & Perspective The U.S. government justifies its massive military and financial support for Israel with the need to protect the hostages. Yet today, 100,000 Israelis marched to save those very hostages-by calling for a ceasefire, a war-ending step that would best protect them-and the American press bleeps it out of the record. This is freaking huge.

I wish we could dismantle them democracydocket Every summer, it's tradition to draw conclusions about the end of the Supreme Court term and how its biggest decisions shaped the country. However, this summer feels particularly untraditional. With the "shadow docket" full of appeals from the Trump administration, the term hardly feels over. And despite some truly terrible decisions, we're also still desperately rooting for the court to save us from some of President Trump's most dangerous actions. We can't pretend we're optimistic that this Court will actually spare us from the steep authoritarian hill we're quickly tumbling down. After all, this was the Court that handed Trump immunity from criminal behavior while president, and then, this summer, gutted the lower courts' ability to hold back his illegal activity. putawomanincharge.bsky..
