The manipulation tendril is the hallmark of Dexian tool manipulation. This prehensile and retractable tongue-like organ consists of a fleshy stalk (acting as an arm or trunk) covered in spiny papillae, terminating in smaller bristled tendrils that allow for more delicate grasping and balancing.

The common scourgebeast (Maxilla horrida) is among the few remaining species in its family, but it was so successful that it spread to nearly every biome and continent of DEXIS-8D. The workers of these eusocial, subterranean omnivores spend most daylight hours tunneling, emerging at night to hunt.
