Devil's Bathtub at Gettysburg. Catches rainwater that slowly turns the rock into soil through chemical weathering. Cool example for geology class.... Grasses are even taking hold.
Pool of rainwater in action chemically weathering the rock to produce a soil. Lichen and moss do their work too.

Gettysburg Battlefield. Amazing to study weathering/erosion @Devil's Den. Jurassic diabase shows chemical, physical & biological weathering. Moss produces acid that digests rock & creates cracks that allow moss to absorb more water, forming deeper cracks & more weathering processes result.
Diabase outcrop at Devil's Den above the rock that is called Devil's Bathtub. The concave-up "bathtub" fell or spauled off the outcrop, leaving a big notch. Lichen and moss grow on the rocks and facilitate chemical weathering including hydrolysis and oxidation. Spauling happens by freeze/thaw and expansion/contraction cycles that produce spheroidal weathering. Just after a light rain... the moss soaked up the rain and changed from its normal crispy brown to brilliant green as it swelled up and out of the recessed cracks it helped produce.
