Scoring Changes
@scoringchanges.bsky.social
A page dedicated to MLB scoring changes & explaining them. We use video and the MLB Casebook to help better educate fans on why things are scored the way they are.

We present a "Good Book Award" every year to the team with the fewest changes in a year.
ANALYSIS: Probably a split committee here, but I think they are giving the hitter the benefit of the doubt on this as a knuckling sort of liner that is deep to Tovar's backhand. It's almost like he lisread this.

ANALYSIS: I think this is a really tough change. The thing the committee is going with is that the fielder either had enough time where he didn't have to spin, or that he spun but had enough time to be in control. I was fine with the single call.

ANALYSIS: The question is would the runner have scored from first without the error, and knowing that the pitcher gets the benefit of the doubt, there is enough to make it unearned.

ANALYSIS: This seems like an easy change as the pitcher easily gets to the ball and just fired wide after he was pretty settled when he threw the ball, and a good throw and the batter is clearly going to be out.

ANALYSIS: The base is probably an issue for the fielder, but this is a play that he is in position and that an MLB second baseman should make, especially shaded up the middle.

ANALYSIS: The original ruling was the double-clutch (which isn't an error), led to slow playing, which allowed Garcia to reach, but even with the double-clutch, Garcia is out with a good throw that doesn't bounce, so this was changed to a throwing error.

ANALYSIS: Marlins announcer @Kyle_Sielaff pegged it perfectly. It's a ball that Ramirez has to keep in front of him. However, it's not a passed ball since the ball, ground, and the dirt all converge, and with the catcher outstretched, that is a wild pitch.

ANALYSIS: I really think the batter is going to be out at first, but the committee is looking at the fielder would have had to make this throw from his knees, which would put this i the realm of above ordinary effort. I was OK with the original ruling, but I can see the reason for the change here.

ANALYSIS: Moncada sort of plays this into a hit, but he never gets to the ball, and it takes a fairly wicked hop that is off to the side and moving away from him. Since he was never quite there, this was changed by the committee to a single.
