Said it on Twitter and saying it here.

The same people thinking Pibby is for manchildren end up proceeding to ignore the fact that someone’s passion project was fucked around with, and also made fun of what his mental state went through.

Might be because while it doesn't succeed in being a well-made grade A movie, it succeeds in being a dumb fun movie.

Overall, while not perfect and more likely to be loved by fans, it was a movie worth the wait. If you’re a fan of the books, I heavily recommend seeing this movie.

As a movie: 8/10

In my opinion and enjoyment: 10/10

Finally seeing that moment, especially in movie format, was like a dream come true for me. I remember the Fetch 22 premise promising a team up like that and it didn’t happen, so I’m grateful that the movie finally made something like that happen.

My most favorite part of the movie and what sets it above the books is the Petey and Dog Man team up. Even though they worked together, they never directly teamed up alone in the books, and it was something I always wanted to see in the books, but never got to.

Grandpa did feel shoehorned in, but I’m one of the few that actually does like his character, so I loved seeing him on the big screen. Even though he had relevance to some character development, I think a few more minutes of screen time would have justified his use in the movie.

Flippy was a good villain, but I think they rushed the context behind his origin even if it was for laughs. Not every newcomer will understand what’s going on with him. I doubt people would want to pause or rewind to understand why he’s evil, psychokinetic, or dead.

The rest of the regular characters (Lil’ Petey, Chief, Sarah) were also pretty great and faithful and it’s nice they gave a bit to Chief too. The cameraman and butler were good. I expected more villainy from the Mayor, but it was a good call to not overstuff the movie even more.

Petey was a standout of the film for sure. Like the books, he had his development, his backstory, his humor, and his development. I loved what they did with him and like the books, he came out as my favorite. I wished they touched on his redemption a bit more, but I’m satisfied.

It was said that Dog Man took a backseat in the movie but tbh, I saw a lot more of him than I thought. I think his relevance in the film was fair, so that he’d get development alongside Petey. Plus, he *did* play his part in the 3rd act. It’s not like he was gone for 30 minutes.

A couple times, even *he* was the one who was the straight (dog) man, being annoyed when Chief glorified his tiny binoculars before Dog Man made a bruh face and took out big binoculars. It felt refreshing. If he was ever like that in the books, I felt it way more here.

Even though Dog Man had his moments of seriousness or heart in the books, it felt more present in the film. They actually showed some of what Dog Man went through after he became what he is, and also dealing with work weight on his shoulders, and his job on the line.
