Chicago’s system is really interesting because 40% of their usage is e-scooters…that’s a lot of demand for mobility lanes, and a lot more ebike charging stations!

Please explain why…the scooters are compatible with the existing docks…it’s the same company…

This problem has been solved…
October 19, 2025 at 9:17 PM
Yup…although there are benefits to running a hybrid system (docks and parking spots), which is lower capital expense and vehicles closer to users…this is true for bikes, e-bikes and e-scooters…
October 19, 2025 at 9:16 PM
First off, any shared scooter system in Toronto should be run by the city and use existing bike share docks…PBSC (now Lyft) the company that sells us the bikes and docks sells scooters that fit in the docks…they can also be operated in a hybrid mode where they can be parked in defined spots…

Almost all e-scooter systems now use docked or hybrid systems that require scooters to be put in specific areas. Thomson should get out more. Also maybe ride the subway a bit more as well…he sounds like he doesn’t get out much…

All hotels should have stylish courtesy scooters for their customers…great feature here at the Fairmont Monte Carlo..

We have official confirmation that the e-scooter rider who died on the viaduct won’t be included in Toronto’s vision zero KSI stats… #topoli #scootto #biketo #zerovision

Just to update this, some of the news articles have updated to indicate another vehicle was involved…and these Reddit posts suggest that a bike may have been involved…we are waiting to hear some official confirmation from the police and city on this… #biketo #scootto

We've said before that we don't think it makes sense for the federal government to legislate things that are toronto specific (like for example requiring a specific wheel size for streetcar tracks) that don't impact any other cities.
April 29, 2025 at 12:19 PM
As we've said, city staff - including from the micromobility team - won't engage us on simple questions - like what are they asking the feds to further legislate before they are willing to re-explore the scooter issue...or why they believe a bylaw can't do what they are asking... #topoli

We see this with the new motion at council for a street side battery charging system like in Asia…where the usage of heavy scooters is off the charts (so much that they often have their own lanes separate from bikes)…
April 18, 2025 at 5:42 AM
It’s right there…they can write the bylaw to do whatever they need, wheel size, speed, certifications and battery design, color, lighting, horns…whatever they want…but they are waiting for upper levels of government to regulate them…despite most of their concerns not being shared with other cities
April 11, 2025 at 4:42 PM
We understand the legal situation, indeed it’s why we exist…council directed staff to collect the data, and we expected it to be in the bike report, it’s not…we have found it elsewhere…we are still disappointed it’s not included in the bike report, along with ongoing safety campaigns..
April 5, 2025 at 6:23 PM
I mean they are all lumped together on the website…under cycling…why would they be siloed? Scooter lanes are bike lanes, scooter infra is bike infra, scooter safety is bike safety, why would a cycling report not include stuff on scooters as well? Even says to email cycling@toronto.ca…

This is @mckelvieto.bsky.social speaking in May about why we shouldn't allow e-scooters in Toronto, she confidently says that Chicago is walking back their pilot...so lets look at what has happened since...🧵

The ferries in Vancouver have figured out how to transport e-scooters, why can the #Toronto ferry not do it?
December 19, 2024 at 2:16 AM
Remember folks, wear a helmet! (Also, risk is relative, this might seem dangerous to you and me, but it’s likely the least dangerous thing Danny Macaskill has done this year) - you can tell how maneuverable scooters are in this clip though, don’t let folks tell you otherwise…

You know #Toronto city council is crazy when they partially ban the transportation that most people are satisfied with in the city...from: www.toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis...
