The White House symbolizes American democracy, the presidency, and the nation's history and unity.

So of course under his orangeness it looks like this as he dismantles it right in front of our eyes.

My dad would have turned 84 today. My relationship with my family is really complicated, but we had come to a good place before he passed. As I was going through, and after I had completed, my cancer treatments I always called to share positive test results and good news. I miss that.

You'll all be glad to know I finally got my official welcome email from Woopra - a service I apparently signed up for 17 years ago but never used, regarding a now long defunct blog. I feel so welcomed.

In response to one of those bullshit "we are adults we shouldn't let differences in opinion separate us" memes on FB, I posted this reply, which will probably lead to me being estranged from even more of my family... And so it goes.

You bet - and we for sure thought he was the only one! We found ourselves naming our cats in alphabetical order (Abbey, Beemer, Desdemona, Cooper - and Penny - but she was among the first before we noticed) When we thought of an E kitty I suggested Eggs Benedict and we went with it. F is for Fee:

I hope your Eggs cat is doing well and recovering. We don't often come across other cats named Eggs - here is our very own Eggs Benedict who wishes his namesake the best!

Post a PERFECT album from the 90s that isn’t Nirvana or Pearl Jam.

I guess I can add another family member to the list of people who won't be inviting me to Thanksgiving...

We are watching the show - A Million Little Things - and oh man I knew something messed up was going to happen as soon as I saw Michael Weston on screen. I will never forget him on Six Feet Under, and he was so good in Elementary too.

what actor’s expression in a movie will stay with you for the rest of your life?

Gina and I spent nearly a week in the New Mexico high desert with no weather issues but upon returning home we get a freaking dust storm alert on our phones - in Chicago! The sky was a wicked sort of brown color. Very strange.

It was indeed a wonderful time and a tremendous shift in perspective in so many ways. Thank you so much for letting me tag along! Wanted to update you on the dastardly plan our Eggs cat has been implementing to make me pay for being gone. As you can see, it's been pretty devastating.

After about a week away, my bestest buddy Eggs Benedict here pretty much hasn't left me alone since we got back. I think he might have missed me, what do you think?

Cats Eggs Benedict in the gray and Fee in the orange enjoy sitting on their mommy's lap surrounded by homemade crocheted projects. They don't really fight but they rarely lay next to each other, this must have been too enticing to resist.

Our traditional Jan. 1 dinner of Jambalaya and a side of Hoppin' John for good luck. I hope you all have a safe and satisfying New Year!

Every night this little peanut waits for me to bend up my leg so she can lay in the little triangle formed behind the crook of my knee. Once it's available she settles right in with a big flop. It's a little thing but I love the routine of it and it makes me so happy. She's a delight!

Today would have been my Dad's birthday. For the last 20 years of his life after retiring he dedicated himself to preserving Route 66 in Illinois. He helped found the museum in Pontiac Il and arranged for artist and activist Bob Waldmire's converted school bus to be housed there. He looked so happy!

It saddens me to hear that musician James Casey has passed at a far too young age from colon cancer. I am inspired, as a colon cancer survivor, by his bravery and his willingness to share his experience and to educate others on the importance of screening and early detection. RIP.
