Interesting, I read about the json part, but did not know you can use as override to pass or fail a run (when tests failing).
I will have a deeper look and make an addendum.
I should have ping you before I published to confim :)

I go in detail over your cypress-expect plugin in this article (however, it works differently to what would be a .fail annotation)

It discusses and compares all the existing installation processes available to create a brand new test framework with each of these two products.
