the spear cuts through water has the most distinct narrative voice i've ever encountered, telling a completely remarkable story, that is populated with richly complicated characters.

acceptance also plays around with different POVs and narrative structure in a way that is SO technically impressive

for uncommon measure i enjoyed the parts that skewed towards memoir and focused more on personal experience bc the scientific elements often seemed kind of awkwardly shoehorned in, and (at least to me) didn't seem to create a very cohesive narrative

priory of the orange tree is top-notch fantasy w rich worldbuilding and great characters, annihilation was a 5 star reread, and i bounced off authority when i first tried reading it years ago so i'm glad i finally gave it another chance because WHEW these books are so weird and fucked up and good

had to take a little break from reading after finishing the secret history to rlly digest it, and have come to the conclusion that i want to study donna tartt’s brain in a lab bc holy shit her writing is so interesting and evocative and fucked up and i loved every second of it
