eyes locked on his as they lead him towards their point. "And with [Marcus] – I keep thinking my spells are failing, as I thought Lazarus's resurrection had failed. I can't reach Marcus, but by nature of the spells I use, I know he's there. Am I making sense so far?"

but something – someone – blocked my reach. More than one force pulled on the tethers, and it took the wizard Eshenesra's aid to even slow them." Their voice drops low, though no one's around. The discomfort of the prior moment forgotten, they lean over the table intently,

It seemed they'd made use of such magic during the battle against the dragon, and attempted the resurrection once the Hellbred had fallen once more. "But at the end, during the proper resurrection, there was interference. His soul existed in that moment, I could 'see' it,

He died [twice] holding it off. It's complicated."

On rare occasion, a particular spell of theirs could return a soul to its body only briefly, allowing the deceased to fight on under their own will and strength and return to Kelemvor's lands at the spell's end.

and the apology was something the 'civilized' races seldom thought even to offer.

"...But I'm not the smiting sort, either. Listen," they sigh, "that [is] him. Whatever happened when he vanished, that's certainly the man we fought beside - the man I kept in the fight until its end.

or with a literal symbol of a God's justice at their side. But even nursing that unexpected wound, they know they can't keep walking this path alone.

Especially in the face of their tentative revelation. Brash had already done more for them than most would,

They watch him a while, warring with their own thoughts as they decide how to proceed.

It's not the first time they've heard that, no, and it won't be the last - but it had been some time, certainly. Few cast such words so casually when Gil had traveled with friends,

"It isn't better if you used the word out of habit, or for a laugh or a point you didn't really mean. It doesn't hurt less to hear casually." They'd think someone like Brash would understand that - but some born as they were either had thicker skin, or held the similar prejudices themselves.

If they can avoid eye contact right now, they will. They avoid looking at Lazarus altogether.

Their own terse tone makes them wince, but they're in no state to correct it, nor apologize. "Tabitha is looking for you upstairs, first on the left. The knight is going to live, but she'll need rest."

"And if [you] go again now, you'll undo whatever miracle you found out there." Ellia arrives to the bar without announcement, making a beeline for the trio. As they reach the bar, they pick one of the paid keys off the countertop at random.

Barring no other objections, they'll hurry from the room and find somewhere to wash their hands before seeking out the source of their distress.

Once more, the knight pulls them from their thoughts, and they instead wrestle with the confidence of caution and the earnestness of her plea. Their answer is apologetic.

"Not the entire night, but long enough to be sure that every inch of rot has been uprooted. Is that fair compromise?"
November 17, 2025 at 2:05 AM
Their own tail flicked anxiously, even if their expression was perfectly blank when they nod to Tabitha.

"I can see to that." It's the very last thing they want to do, the last face they want to see right now, but they see no other choice before them.
November 17, 2025 at 2:05 AM
"What? No! I–

[He's] not even a Tiefling! I [am.]"

'Foulblood.' That's what hits them; the offer to kill is a misunderstanding, but the word that's been flung at them half their life was a choice.

"There's something else." They speak slowly, softly enough so only he can hear. "There's a Hellbred man who was at the bar last night. The last time I saw him, we fought an ancient dragon together.

He [died] in battle. My resurrection failed. His body just... vanished."

...what just about anyone would call a fool's errand. I just want you to know I appreciate it and meant no disregard."

And because he [did] brush the apology off, they'll spare him responding if he doesn't wish to, clearing their throat and continuing.

"I wouldn't think you were fragile, even if it did bother you." They're careful not to call him on the bluff outright, but noticing how he tenses around it only deepens the guilt they feel for it. "Even so, you've offered a lot to help a stranger with...

begin to part ways with their own needs.

Fortunately, the two are not alone. Their speech relaxes somewhat as they answer Tabitha, "There are some things I need to see to, and it's been... a very long stretch of days. If someone could come sit and keep an eye on the room, I'd be grateful."

"It may be so - but often, the mind needs rest magic cannot grant, following such a tainted injury. When the time comes that we must take up arms, we will determine if it is within means."

The knight's initial attitude had not escaped them. It's troubling, but they can feel their duty here
November 16, 2025 at 5:06 PM
Once he's settled, they begin, "I should apologize for getting confused last night. I haven't worked beside another healer in some time. In the mess of things, I just... forgot where I was, I suppose." And all that had passed.

It's not the only matter on their mind, but they pause here.

She stares at the carcass, then back at him.

"Neither of us ate much past breakfast yesterday, unless you found something last night, aand [that's] hardly a mouthful. I'll pay, just... let's find somewhere to sit."

They quickly find a corner booth where service won't notice the pair so quickly.

and no one here knows what happened, or anything about me beyond my work in this fight."
November 16, 2025 at 4:45 AM
Could we... talk a moment?" Gods, when was the last time they sounded so unsure of themselves? They run a hand through their hair, grasping for [something] to better ground them.

"I should explain myself, and... and honestly, I need to talk to someone,
November 16, 2025 at 4:45 AM
The flare of indignation dies unusually quickly. Manners aren't nearly at the fore of their mind right now, and as they join him they even admit, "Probably, yes.

You didn't have to catch that, I paid the stable hand to feed Apollo. Before breakfast and whatever else is happening, I...

They'll forget the paid room key in their pocket, settling for a fitful sleep in the drafty stables.

And in the morning, they'll happen upon Brash in the early hours before Esra's people regroup, looking far worse for the wear than any night in the wilderness had left them.
