It's so good to see her genuine smile again.

My mom adores my stepdaughters, but they're 16 and 20- it's a very different dynamic. I never had young kids of my own, so the chance to be called Grandma by these 3 littles has been an unexpected and life-giving joy for my mom who was struggling to find direction after we lost Dad.

She enthusiastically accepted. When the family was expecting their 3rd child in 2023, they asked Mom to be the baby's godmother as well. A few weeks before the baby was due, the family asked to name the baby after her.

Yesterday was Baby Joanne's second birthday. Here she is with her namesake.

Working with Mom and her fellow catechists, both parents are now baptized and proud members of the Catholic Church. They attend Mass with Mom almost every Sunday and have become part of the same church community I grew up in.

It was only logical that Mom was asked to be godmother for the 2 kids.

She has a fantastic talent for inspiring faith in the people she meets and has gladly accepted the role of godmother for many new Catholics who have become real family for us.

When a family of Kenyan immigrants began their journey towards becoming members of the Catholic Church, Mom was there.

She just ~does~ that. It's astounding.
