Friendly neighborhood AI-scientist.
I am still blown away Metagenomic assembly is possible.

A MAG or ‘Metagenome assembled genome’ is represents the total genomic information of an environmental system… the code of a whole ecosystem…

Doing some work this week modeling the metagenomics of the “Whale Carbon pump”.

Whales process an enormous amount of nutrients, and there is an entire planktonic web of live based on processing their organic output.

The carbon processing potential of this ‘whale pump’ is enormous…

Research to the People at Stanford recently held an incredible conference at the intersection of multi-omics and precision medicine.

RttP does so much to drive forward the frontiers of oncology and rare illness medicine, and this year were amazing.

Will share the video here as soon as it’s out!

Have been working on a content series based on a scientist cartoon character whose name happens to be Stanley 🤗

Aiming to produce some 10 to 15 minute episodes that would help youngsters learn about the ways that artificial intelligence and robotics will be changing our world!

Been doing some Midjourney work with my Mentor Jim Budman of the historic Budman studio art patronage network...

... And it's so fun!

Jim has a very special collection of sculpture, and we're using photos of those pieces as a base for futuristic cities.

Having a lot of fun with #midjourney today.

Here you will find my girlfriend Samantha battling robots in her high school class room 😜💜🙏

My favorite piece of science from last year is definitely DiffDock from MIT, which applies geometric deep learning to radically change how people approach molecular simulation problems.

DiffDock is already radically democratizing access to molecular simulation for rare illness, and I love it! 🤗

This is one of my favorite AI papers recently uses a network of LLMs to simulate a Stardew valley esque community.

https://arxiv.org/abs/2304.03442

They observed some pretty incredible emergent social patterns, worth checking out.

@aoc.bsky.social's post about Star Dew valley reminded me. 🤗🥼💜

Stardew valley such a beautiful game!

Feel like it has a lot to teach to players about the shape of communities.

Games about building and collaboration are the best.

Gotta love the California mussel!

This little filter feeder is such a key part of our beloved intertidal zone here in California, that it actually inspired the original concept of a 'keystone' species...

...which is to say, a species whose connections to the rest of the ecosystem make it central.

Daily BluSky science time!!!

Have you heard about the ‘Cetacean Carbon pump’?

It’s an entire ecosystem that exists to process Whale Waste, and it’s one of the world’s most productive sources of carbon sequestration.

There are webs of life all around us, holding up the world we know.

The Hopf fibration is probably my favorite mathematical space/object.

It expresses the 3-dimensional sphere as a fibration of circles and a sphere.
